Personally I think that the tere itself is already subjective. It's short for Mother I'd Like to Fuck. I'd being the qualifier. Not to mention the mother part. I don't think it has anything to do with any actual mother, I think it has more to the feel of it. The term should be used towards maternal figures, and this can apply to older or younger characters as long as they are in some way or another providing some sort of motherly aura.

I think nothing's wrong with the tag, it's very common.
As for mature, that only captures half of it and not all MILFs are mature. Cougar is about the age difference, so that isn't quite right, either. IMHO the only alternative that gets the gist of it would be yummy_mummy, but I'd leave it as is.

The problem is that it's outright subjective, and tags aren't supposed to be so. Subjective stuff goes to pools.

I thought it was established that the current "MILF" tag had nothing to do with the character being a mother or not, so certainly the creation of a yummy_mummy tag seems out of the question. And it was it would be redundant with Mother anyways, since that would mean its only purpose is a "hot" or "sexy" tag for women with that, neither of which are viable Danbooru tags on their own; And motherhood coming into the picture suddenly doesn't make hotness any less sujective or taggable certainly.
As to being used to simply tag older but not elderly women... I ~really~ wish the adult tag wasn't aliased to older still; child isn't aliased to younger, and it would be a perfect set of tags to show the age of characters that aren't the stock 14-20 year olds. Mature certainly is a worse option since A) it feels like if mature is used for adults that immature should be used for children, and B) mature denotes more than age with things like physical and mental maturity to consider in the word's meaning.
But if mature is the only solution to desribe adults apart from teens or elderly people, it's something at least.
tl;dr: This tag exists merely because a few of those who come here to touch themselves have a certain fetish. Just nuke it - frankly, I don't think it even needs a posthumous alias.

The searches mom and mother are still under Missed Searches. I think it's more than just a few.
There's no argument that milf is subjective. However, it's not something that actively interrupts the searches done on the website, the tag milf by itself is being used otherwise correctly for the one thing it describes, even if it goes against all the rules of form. It's existence, as obnoxious as it is, works just fine.
Thus, leaving it as it is lets the function of searching for those items continue unhindered. But beyond that, replacing milf with mature and having milf redirect to that is just good practice and sets the problem down for good.
Removing milf without a suitable replacement will cause problems for searches of those images in the future, getting in the way of making those images with the tag as it is, no longer directly searchable. Even if mature has negative connotations, which I agree make it a kind of loaded term, it is form and function-wise a superior option, and looks like it has earned the majority of support from past users.
That all being said, since Apollyon and NWF Renim suggested a pool instead, I'd say "MILFS" or "MILFS Only" is an OK name, and give it the agreed criteria: "Older women that can be considered attractive or who've retained their beauty, a woman doesn't have to be a mother to be considered one. This replaces milf tag."
My personal feeling is also to consider what Schrobby said, that mature is a better tag for general things like cougars and non-milf mature characters, then have the actual milf images be in a pool, probably the most preferable idea all around.

I would favour implying milf -> mature, and aliasing less common tags (dilf, gilf etc.)

Old people are beyond what is considered mature. They're old. I don't know if you want to alias those tags to that or have them imply that though.

Well, if we have an old tag, I don't see a reason to not imply that. Alias would be inappropriate I think since old woman/man are two different thing. To alias them to the same old tag...nope, wouldn't want that.
