Danbooru

Pics only saving as bitmaps

Posted under General

Tried a few things suggested by the links in evazion's post. Didn't work. I'm using IE8, but everyone's going to have different preferences for browsers because of how they perceive their own level of knowledge when it comes to computer operation. Which one is better or not doesn't really address the issue at hand. The fact is this problem only occurs on Danbooru (for me at least), and only within the last couple days. It seems more likely that something has changed server side than everyone using IE, or other browsers that have the same problem, spontaneously encountering the same glitch or damaged cache file or whatever at the same time. I guess this is just a grump post though since I can't offer any solutions.

Ok, this is getting annoying. The problem still exists, and only on this website. I am not going to download another browser just to use for Danbooru. Wiping temp internet files and changing the location of the folder did nothing, and I suspected it wouldn't. The problem is definitely server side. Please fix it soon. Thank you.

Why are you so attached to IE? It's not like downloading a new browser -- well, Firefox, anyway -- takes a long time or is very difficult to do. I think people are increasingly not going out of their way to make things IE-compatible, anyway.

Here.

Take it, use it, and never look back.

For one thing, I don't feel the need to have multiple browsers. For another IE is not inferior, unless your a deusche bag who smugly thinks that he's awesome just because he uses Firefox or some other browser. And I didn't refuse anything, ignorantly or otherwise. I tried the suggestions listed in this topic, and none of them worked. And there is a reason they didn't work. That reason is that the problem is NOT Internet Explorer.

Chainedwind, I appreciate your non-inflamatory reply. I know other browsers are quick and easy to download and install. I've already tried Firefox, Chrome and Opera. I just did not like them, so I don't use them.

This is the only website that I have any problems with. I peruse at least 20 different sites regularly on a daily basis, and dozens more on an irregular basis. Many are sites similar in purpose to this one, and none have the .bmp issue.

It's not the end of the world, but it is a bit annoying. All I am asking is for a response from someone who has the ability to authoritatively answer whether or not this problem is in fact server side, not a bunch of people who are only client side like myself (and a couple of uppity smug yogurt canon holsters).

I've also had the same problem. I just change my pics to .png after I download them. Takes time, but it's my only solution so far.

You should always have multiple browsers.

I switched to Firefox after getting this problem, and it still persists. :[

Can you give a sample post where this happens?

FUNFACT: I've tried every browser I can think of and the only one with this problem is IE, stop claiming it's not an IE issue because it clearly is.

There IS a difference, the key being that IE is poorly developed, lacks a variety of features modern browsers have, is incredibly exploitable, and is a frequent target for malware as users are typically not smart enough to remove such things.

This whole thread reminds me of this webcomic

Use the link next to Size under Statistics. You're saving the sample image the way you're doing it now.

I actually don't save images at all, but thanks for the tip, Clavin.

Anyway, with that, I noticed that using "Save target as" on the Size link saves it as a .jpg, but "Save picture as" always gives me a .bmp. Long story short, use Firefox. /thread

...or copy it to an image viewer/editor (such as Irfanview, Paint, or Photoshop) and save the image as is. But the image to be saved using such a viewer, depending on the settings on the format to be saved, might not have the same file size as the image generated here.

Just my two cents. I'll stick to IE despite your criticisms against it, but like Hytone, I rarely save images from here.
