More often than not, a post with the "ass" tag is sexual, and "ass" fits that connotation.

While it's a bit clinical, the meaning of buttocks is synonomous with our more popular use of the word ass (which can also be used to refer to mules or a person of ill regard)

The only issue I can think of for NOT using buttocks is that the word is inelegant sounding when spoken aloud. Breasts rolls off the tongue (and so does tits). For the other pair, it seems buttocks does not sound as enticing as ass. A clumsy word, if you may.

Huh, by coincidence I was just wishing this exact change could be made the other day. In my case it's because I save images by drag and dropping them (browser window to folder). In Windows 7, this names the file by the page's title. The page title on danbooru is derived from the tags. Ass, starting with A of course, is often the first tag.

This means most of my folders are now topped with files with names like "ass black_hair blonde_hair bowtie" and "armor ass blue_hair" and "ass boots brown_eyes" and "ass bell breasts brown_eyes". Which is... weird at best, and increasingly, really obnoxious.

Plus, as an artist who collects otherwise safe images for inspiration, I'd just rather see a neutral anatomical word like butt or buttocks than a cheap slang word. As it's true enough that few people see ass as offensively vulgar, the question isn't "why use a vulgar term when you can use a non-vulgar term," but rather "why use a slang term when you can use a neutral term." As the OP pointed out, we use breasts, not tits... and I'd say danbooru is just a little bit less tacky for it.

Does it matter? Even if it happened to be the most vulgar term, it doesn't mean that it's particularly vulgar.

It seems the majority opinion is that it's not offensive enough to merit changing. It's far from a consensus, but the best argument in favor of changing it seems to be "it is vulgar", or "it isn't proper".

In my mind it makes more sense to use natural sounding terms than ones that are absolutely sanitized.
