moemon is just a tag for a pokemon personification search (though there could be images with the above search that wouldn't be moemon...maybe).

That said, if it isn't already, moemon should imply personification as well.

Moemon appears to be a term used for ANY personified Pokemon. Though I suppose you've already come to realize this.

That said, I don't really know the origins. It's probably something like what Shinjidude said.

I think we should scrap the moemon tag, as it's just a shortcut for a personification pokemon search. Although I guess you could theoretically have a non-personified Pokemon in the same picture with a personified something else.

Scrap it, no. There is a fan-made Moemon game, which (to the best of my knowledge) is where the thrust of the idea comes from. There's plenty of room for images pertaining to that game to be tagged as such.

I will agree that there's too much conflation with personification pokemon, though. So, how should the tag be refined?

Agh, right, that's what I was thinking, but got some mental wires crossed ("less than three tags" and "more than two tags").

After considering it, I think it should be restricted to the designs used in the Moemon game.

Conflation by itself hasn't stopped us from using tags in the past. We have tons of combo tags. I'm not against leaving it as is. I don't use it though, so I don't really mind if we change it either.

Actually it's limited to two tags. So moemon grouping together personification + pokemon is actually a useful tag for regular members.

I'm for having it imply personification and pokemon at the very least, because that's what we're defining it as currently. I don't think it would be very useful restricting it to the moemon game's designs, since those are so few and far between. If it's really necessary, moemon_(game) can be used, but I don't see much value in it.

So, the only real justification of the moemon tag is to specifically reference the fan-made game.

We are much stricter with pools than tags though.

I don't see us canning striped_panties anytime soon, and that's essentially only a combo-tag of striped and panties.

Moreover I don't think moemon was designed specifically to get around the 2-tag limit, so much as that is just a side affect of any combo tag.

Most of these images have a fairly standard layout, and the concept is pretty solid. I think it has value beyond simply being a tag limit loophole.

I noticed that most of the moemon pics are portraits with both the personification and the actual Pokemon creature itself. This may have been the case back when the tag was created, since it was the prominent style that hitec did for his/her Pokemon personifications. Perhaps we can tighten the definition to reflect this, rather than just a pokemon personification search?

That makes sense as the guideline. And no, we're not stricter with pools, it's just that striped_panties is a bad example. You can easily have panties and striped_thighhighs match your search, whereas striped panties are a distinct and common motif.

I fail to see why personified pokemon isn't also a distinct and common motif? Or plaid_skirt, or short_pigtails or any other tag that is otherwise a combination of two other tags.

Because an image with pokemon is not particularly likely to have other things personified in it which might mistakenly make the post show up when someone was searching for personified pokemon. But striped thighhighs will match thousands of posts that aren't tagged striped_thighhighs, because they contain things other than thighhighs that are striped and/or thighhighs that are something other than striped.

Necroing this thread, since the introduction of pokemon (creature) has made this definition of moemon redundant:

On danbooru, this tag means a specific style of Pokemon personification where the personified Pokemon is shown alongside the normal one.

In addition, attributing Moemon to hitec is incorrect, even though he may have the largest number of Moemon posts on here. Google searching "Moemon" in English and Japanese almost exclusively brings up the ROM hack that aozane designed and other hacks based on it.
