I feel that it might be good to have this in a separate thread do quarantine this issue from recent shenanigans.

The basic question is whether or not rifyu meets danbooru quality art and if it is worth deleting it because, even though a lot of people don't like it for not being funny, its like Bkub in that its a selective type of humor and a large amount of people see the humor.

Just leaving it open.

Just a word of caution to set the matters straight: if anyone feels like making a "zOMG but all the horrible things you're not deleting!!!1" post, you will be kicked for very good reasons. Keep the discussion on-topic or shut up.

My opinion is that they're just not danbooru-quality material. I don't care if they're bad on purpose or not; we're not a hipster site to be swayed by an "I'm doing it ironically" argument. The art is horrible, and the humour isn't there. Just because these 4komas exist doesn't make them danbooru material; we're supposed to be a repository of high-quality content. Bkub is also quirky, but at least there's some kind of wit behind his works. Rifyu's don't, and thus they're indistinguishable from comics that are simpl terrible.

I personally don't like the series, its largely hit and miss to me but I feel the same way I do about Riyfu as I do about Bkub, so I really can't say the former is any worse in quality in the latter so I feel that if its up, it should stay up, but it can certainly go through moderation.

So I'm iffy on whether or not its danbooru quality, its really case by case and its a case of "love it or hate it" so for that reason I can't support deletions, and I don't want to go through the issue of flagging the ones already there since there are so many and its so subjective. At the least, if it is done, there should be some type of message sent out so people can save what they want.

A lot of people here worked hard on translation for Rifyu comics. Is there an easy way to export the translations to another site?

Here are some points to consider:

• Rifyu comics are uploaded like 2-3 times a month. They don't exactly clutter up search results.
• I wouldn't call the art bad. It's cute. It's consistent. He doesn't try to draw things that are outside his skill level.
• The humor is an acquired taste. A lot of its appeal is how random it is. But a lot of people find it funny.

Humour is pretty subjective, so I'm not sure "it's not funny" works as a reason to delete something.

BUT, the real point isn't the "quality", quality doen't exists. What exists is your fuck opinion.

If someone post it, and it's not child pron (like the ones you probabily like) or monster pron (what? im just saying..), then there is NO reason to deleted it.

And also, Rifyu HAS fans, and even if it were just ONE PERSON (rifyu itself, in case) there's still NO REASON TO DELETE THIS SHIT

We have 373 of them. That's a lot more than the majority of artists we host. Has he been drawing them for the last 10-15 years?

I agree that he's consistent, but I'd really object to calling it "cute". And there are many people drawing random content on the net; that doesn't mean we should host every single one of them. We're supposed to be the repository of best stuff, not every stuff. You can't have both.

It's needed to understand the humor, it consists basically of Umineko internal jokes... so it's normal that people who don't have read Umineko novels or know at least the plot will dislike it.

If you feel like compiling a list of ones that are worth anything, I wouldn't exactly object. But my highly scientific look at a random sample has convinced me I really don't want to go through 373 posts of unfunny, so I didn't do that myself.

I can understand if you want to delete some (or most) of them (I kinda agree that a lot of pics are absolutely horrible), but nuke all the artist just because you dislike it is fucking stupid.

My 2 cents:
Riyfu's art is crap and I've never found them funny. For the Umineko/Higurashi ones, I've always assumed it was funny to those familiar with the series. But reading the Madoka ones (for which I am familiar with the anime), those are not funny either.

Was it wrong for Hazuki to simply delete them without either flagging them first or waiting for more opinions? Yes, but what most people seem to be missing is the fact that HE'S ALREADY ADMITTED IT WAS WRONG.

The example posts I've linked were actually from Madoka, and they were terrible. I've looked through several of the Umineko ones, and they were almost all painfully obvious variations on the same theme. If I know what panel 4 will have by the time I'm halfway through panel 1, and I don't have a clue about Umineko, then you'll have a hard time convincing me there's a lot of hidden humour inside.

Sure the distinction between bkub which I agree is funny in a non-obvious way and rifyu which you claim is funny in a non-obvious way is somewhat arbitrary, but that's inherent in how our moderation system works. So unless we decide to rework completely how we do moderation and quality control, I will continue to be sceptical about the "many people like it" argument. Many people like nude filters, and we still nuked them.

Well, I don't know why just because you don't think it's funny all other people should think it too. I think it's funny, and so do other fans of rifyu's work.

That was in a large part mismanagement on my side. I don't feel like going through 373 posts of what I feel to be crap, so I took a pseudo-random sample and didn't like any of it, so I extrapolated to the rest. I should have given some time for people to come up with posts they feel should be spared, sorry for that.

The gist of it remains, though: most of it should go. If there are any that are much better than the usual, bring them up here.
