If it's rare for there to be single buttons, and buttons typically make up a natural set, I'd probably reverse the alias on that one.

Typically, yes, but unlike other natural pairs/sets, it's rather common for there to be a single button in a normal situation (unlike shoes, socks, etc.).

Pants tend to have one button, paired with a zipper, and it's not farfetched to think only one button of an endowed blouse has popped.
