Danbooru

Tag Implication: atelier_escha_and_logy -> atelier_(series)

Posted under General

'Escha & Logy', in addition to being the official title, preserves the intended pun somewhat: 'and' is 'to' (と) in Japanese, so the correct pronunciation would be Escha to Logy.

I've noticed that the Atelier copyright series are tagged using the English names rather than the Japanese ones, so Marie no Atelier, Elie no Atelier, Iris no Atelier, etc. are not used nor implicated/aliased here. So to suddenly use Escha to Logy no Atelier here would throw off the pattern of Atelier series tags.

Here's the official logo for the game.

As for Glasnost's note, the two characters' names plus the Japanese 'to' break down the term eschatology which sounds really dark considering this is part of a lighthearted series... But that's just me. Good catch, Glasnost.

Not sure why we're using the English names for this.

But for now, did:
create alias atelier_escha_and_logy -> atelier_escha_&_logy

I have no idea either. Maybe no one ever got around to requesting aliases.

If the full Japanese titles (XXX_no_Atelier format rather than Atelier_XXX) are desired on Danbooru, then the following aliases would have to occur (listed in chronological order, referred to wiki page for the titles):

I think I have them all. I didn't include the titles for the PSP ports, and I'm about to post some Atelier Elkrone pictures soon.

As you can see above the original names are unwieldy as all hell. I'm pretty sure that's the entire reason. Maybe also because every logo has both titles so the advantage of using JP over EN is minimal at best. I'd rather not alias these, personally.

Updated

I totally agree. I was just throwing the alias list out there at least to provide a good explanation for why the Japanese titles aren't being used.

Well sure the Japanese titles look longer if you compare JP with subtitle to ENG without subtitle. If you include them with both there's no difference:
atelier_ayesha_alchemist_of_the_ground_of_dusk -> ayesha_no_atelier_tasogare_no_daichi_no_renkinjutsushi
Or compare without:
atelier_ayesha -> ayesha_no_atelier

What am I missing?

Not saying we have to alias since it's just atelier_x vs x_no_atelier but the subtitle doesn't seem like a valid reason since you can include it or not include it in either language.

@Sal.N
It seems you totally missed what jxh2154 was trying to say.
Something being present on logo is irrelevant here, the issue was with the length of full title. Which is fairly similar for both eng and original titles so it is not a reason to prefer one option over the other.

On the topic of eng vs jp titles. Main part of all original titles is written with katakana, which indicates foreign words. Correct romanization/reading of those words is provided by the game's producer and is used in eng title. So the difference between title variants is rather minuscule and using either one as our tags should be fine.

Personally, I would keep current atelier_(series) tags simply because it requires less effort compared to remaking all the aliases and implications.

I think the English titles are on the Japanese logos as well... Here's the list of all the game logos on the games' boxart just to be sure:

Atelier Marie
Atelier Elie
Atelier Lilie
Atelier Iris Eternal Mana
Atelier Iris Eternal Mana 2
Atelier Iris Grand Phantasm
Mana Khemia
Mana Khemia 2
Atelier Rorona
Atelier Totori
Atelier Meruru

I think we get the idea, so I don't need to do the other games. The Atelier series doesn't really need Japanese aliases because:

1. The full Japanese titles are too lengthy and cumbersome, as I proved above.
2. Both the English Atelier_XX and the Japanese XX_no_Atelier title formats are present in the games' titles. For Mana Khemia, the マナケミア kana is present in those logos as well.

How you come to the conclusion I didn't get his point is beyond me.

The argument is about should we use atelier_xxx or xxx_no_atelier. My reponse: the former format is present on the official logo, not something the English localization company made up, so we have the legit reason why we can use it and not breaking Danbooru's rule of "always using the official original title".

But it is not an official original title. Being present on the logo or box art does not make it a (part) of official title.
See http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/アトリエシリーズ for list of all games in the series and their original titles. Or check their individual homepages and see how original title is written in the info/specifications section.

Also, we don't have a rule like that. It's a guideline rather than rule and we do have a good amount of copyright tags that are not compliant with it.

@Benit149
Regarding you first point about full titles being lengthy and cumbersome, please reread jxh2154's post.

Let's agree to disagree.
