I know there were some reservations but I think copyright_name is still the best option so far just for consistency's sake.

On an unrelated note, is there a tag for portmanteau titles? An example is post #602201 where Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon and Neon Genesis Evangelion's titles are blended into one to refer to both series.

Title is very short and non-descriptive, it can be easily added by accident or confused with something other. Note that we have other *_title/title_* tags, like title_parody.
I don't think it is a good idea to use it as a tag name.

probably the simplest solution. seconding this. then, if not, i'll still go for title_name, yes this appears redundant but for the sake of uniformity (artist_name, character_name) and ambiguous enough not too specific if title of episode, copyright, album, doujin...

Title name isn't much better than title drop. It sounds redundant and unintuitive.

Title drop is still not a good name, so that wouldn't solve much.

Hmm, is there some reason we can't just use title? That would seem to keep it simple and intuitive, IMO.

But failing that, I think that copyright name or maybe something like displayed title would be an improvement over the current name.

Title name is not really that much more intuitive than title drop, tbqh. Aliasing title name and copyright name to title drop would probably cause the least number of issues

I'm not really stuck on the "copyright" part of my proposal, but I am stuck on the "drop" part of the current tag. This is because "drop" is pretty unintuitive, and as I mentioned previously, we don't need to mimic other sites (e.g. TV Tropes) just because. Using title_name would also make things more standardized, and therefore, more convenient and easier to remember.

character_name is used for the green character tag type.
title_drop is used for many things that we do not use copyright tags for.
Examples would be doujinshi covers (parody of existing franchise or original) or made-up titles.
The wiki also include "title of an episode/chapter".

I think the word "title" is OK in this context. The tag isn't limited to images in which the copyright tag also appears in the image as text.

What brought this request about, is that for myself, I can never remember whether to use drop or name, and which side it goes on or the exact wording because of this discrepancy. I always have to search for *character*, *artist*, *name*, or *drop* under the tag search to figure out which tag is being used.

Besides, we don't have to (read: shouldn't) mirror everything that other sites do, such as TV Tropes. IMO, we should use a system that is convenient and easy to remember. Standardization tends to help out with both.

Standardization. Character Name is used for characters. Artist Name is used for artists. "copyright_name" should be used for copyrights (i.e. titles, brands, etc).
