Well, she has been shown to do things that would purposefully make him need her more, like giving him crazy spicy curry. I have a fear that she may try something like that again here.

Well, the 頼れ is to say she's reliable with things not everyone can do, 頼って is to say she's now relied on, with things anyone can do. That's how interpreted it, still need to ask the artist if you want a definite answer though.
