Unfortunately is being developed by PGI...same group that did MWO.
Asking a 2 year old post, but honestly curious: Why do some people hate MWO so much? I've been playing for close to a year now and I've loved my time with it, especially now that they're playing pretty fast and loose with the free premium currency and premium time.

Well, it was competing with a free fan project that had a much broader array of classic units that players felt was more true to the games they loved and didn't involve the massively grindy experience system.
Also, they tried to sell $500 gold mechs, which was a Horse Armor-tier meme of corporate avarice for the half hour it took EA to find a way to top them. (Granted, it's not even remotely touching Star Citizen's $27,000 pay-to-win bundle, but then again, you have to go LOOKING for Star Citizen at this point, as it's become entirely insular and Ouroboros-like, consuming all the wealth that its cult of backers still has before gradually being forced to come out when the money pits are mined out.)

I get the nostalgia about seeing the old mechs, but the old '80s feel hasn't really aged well. The fan game looks pretty cool on its own, I must admit.
