Eh, I dunno but I'd say Eugeo was the best written of all SAO characters. And yes by that I still mean SAO as a whole is still shit-tier writing, and by that I also mean "best written" is a very, very, very low bar.
He's portrayed as being competent enough with actual internal conflicts and external challenges who almost had a good chance in rivaling Kirito in both combat and romance. It's a long way from Klein and Recon who literally exist just to be the beta loser propping up just how alpha Kirito is.
Though yes ultimately he still ended up having the number two syndrome throughout his story, can't solve most of the problem without Kirito doing the thinking for him, got seduced as if to say that's his only actual chance at getting laid, and ultimately died pointlessly so the status quo can go back to sucking Kirito's dick 24/7. But while he lasted he was a passable example of a protagonist who doesn't have to always be the best at everything, be right at everything, and get all the girls who he just met for 5 minutes. And that, in a Gary Stu story, showed Kawahara's growth(and later regression) well enough for what it's worth.
