One: it's some sort of laser satellite dish thingy and the kids are suspended over the firing grid as a form of Easily Escapable Deathtrap as bait to lure some hero into fighting a Big Bad somewhere offscreen.
Two: Those eight ports around the bottom of the dish lead to the holding pen of a tentacle monster and we're about to have a heaping helping of wholesome loli tentacle rape.
Clearly, this is the machine for disposing of the faulty clones.
I don't know... I would prefer if they gave them a chance to live. They are human beings after all (I think). As for the hands that are backwards, it can be fixed with surgery, I'm pretty sure.
It might sounds weird, but I don't like when people are getting hurt.
