On one hand, I would have liked to see more action from Tewi and Iku, on the other, there's still a lot of matches to go through, so I'm glad this one went quickly. It was a bit anti-climatic, but I suppose that's just the author's interpretation of how much Komachi and Yuugi overpower them, which I think most people would agree with, myself included. Still, I think the shortest match is going to be Mima and Yuuka vs Sunny Milk and Luna Child. That could potentially end in a single panel.
I rather like it, was quick, and just helps you realize that one of the most physically powerful characters in the whole series is not going to loose to a little trickster. Oh yeah, she has the equivalent of Death on her side too...
Tewi might have been able to pull off some painful pranks here and there, but she doesn't really have the sheer firepower to go toe-to-toe with Yuugi or Komachi. Iku was about the best chance the team had, and she just had to try and fight Yuugi at close range.
I'm expecting Tewi to throw a lit match at Yuugi and run after the battle, though. It just wouldn't be the same if she took the loss humbly. :D
The better team won in the end, unfortunately... but it's not really like they had much of a chance. I won't deny they had a chance, Iku is pretty powerful and all, but the match was over when Iku attempted close range techniques... and doing that against a person who calls herself "Yuugi the Strong" is practically suicide. And, err, what happened to the weather mattering again? Snow, wasn't it? Maybe that's why it was so short because everyone ran out of spellcards :|
Looking forward to the next and best (as in most "balanced" as far as stage level strength goes, not by favoritism) matchup of round 1 tbh...
Ran/Okuu (EX/Final) vs Mokou/Koishi (EX/EX). So long as either team doesn't pull a Daiyousei this time, anyway. Or they switch teams to form Mokou/Ran and Okuu/Koishi. This should be one good match either way, and hopefully it won't disappoint. Either team winning will be cool, I like Ran and I like Mokou. And the winner of that fight ends up against Yuugi and Komachi, further creating ANOTHER good fight (or at least one that's slightly more balanced in terms of strength and is hopefully longer than this one)
I'm also a bit disappointed in this match. At least in the previous match, while Chen/Akyuu were hopelessly over matched in a direct battle, there was at least a strategy, and there was some characterization. In this match, Iku didn't strike me as arrogant enough to believe that she could go toe-to-toe with Yuugi, and even if it was intended as a diversionary tactic, Tewi's follow-up was... very poor at best.
Ah well, bright side is that it means the next match starts sooner, and the best-looking one on paper (and from the slight teaser that the author posted earlier, it looks like he's looking forward to this one too).
Iku gave up as mainly a show of kindness towards Tewi as well... it wouldn't have ended well for her.
Iku/Tewi really blundered against them, limiting their chances. Trying to go into Melee range with an oni (a Deva at that) isn't the brightest of ideas... nor is trying to make light of one.
And despite Komachi's joke status... she's no joke in combat... it's the matter of her being awake and willing.
Now if Iku stuck to long range combat, she'd have fared better as it's her stronger point and Yuugi's weaker point.
Disappointed in the minor level of clothing damage inflicted in this round though.
I admit I was hoping for more from this match, mostly in the Chen/Akyuu style of "let's see how they're going to put up a good fight against overwhelming odds".
Part of me is wondering if this isn't all part of a scheme by either Tewi or the author to have some backstage shenanigans.
next match will be awsome i belive ran/okuu is one of the strongest teams (9 tail extra boss + most baddass last boss) though how do you beat moukou ??? she cant die but can she faint?

That's just it. "If Iku had stuck to long-range she would have fared better". How exactly do you stick to long-range against someone who can manipulate the distance between any two points? If Iku had hung back and tried frying Yuugi with lightning I guarantee we would have had a page of Komachi suddenly shrinking the distance between Iku and Yuugi to just three steps. As it is, the Drill was her strongest physical attack and she underestimated Yuugi. Mistakes happen and at least that looked cooler than her hanging back, trying to cheese Yuugi at range, and then getting stomped anyway once Komachi teleported Yuugi right in her face.
Tewi wasn't even worth considering (given the nature of most of her pranks she's not even half as clever as some make her out to be) and she had almost no real time to prep by getting stuff for traps. She was a mid-boss with no useful special ability (her power is "the power to give good luck to humans", not herself or youkai; a lot of folks don't realize that and they picture her as this luck manipulator). Frankly she's a brat who overestimated her silly tricks and is lucky her partner was considerate enough to forego pride and forfeit before Yuugi turned her into paste.
At least in Akyuu/Chen vs Tenshi/Mystia they had the advantages of a battlefield with lots of places to hide, Mystia's sheer stupidity and weakness (she may be stronger than Akyuu but she is nowhere near top-tier), the fact that Chen was willing to listen to Akyuu from the very get-go (there was no sign of any real collaboration between Tewi and Iku), and Tenshi's arrogance. This match was like that only the opposition had two powerful members instead of just one (one of whom negates Iku's only real advantage, range, by having the power to manipulate range at will) and both of them are at least of average intelligence nor are they ever portrayed as being arrogant.
It was basically Iku vs Yuugi/Komachi from the start if you look at it objectively!
From an objective standpoint, it makes perfect sense. Though, in this situation, I daresay most people are displeased with the outcome because it didn't end the way they wanted it to.
Let's stop...Match over!!!The winner is the Yuugi/Komachi Team!Displaying some truly god-like strength, they advance to the glorious second rouuuund!!Yes...I guess.You okayyy?No......I...give up...
