天城 (Named after Mount Amagi, lit. Heavenly Castle)
The IJN Amagi in Kantai Collection. Designed by Kuuro Kuro.
Amagi is the second ship of the Unryuu-class fleet carriers.
She has long brown hair in a high, wide ponytail with uneven-length bangs, featuring long sidelocks, the right side being left loose while the left side is clipped to her temple with a Japanese maple leaf hair ornament. She has brown eyes as well as a beauty mark below her left eye. Like her sister, she has large breasts.
Unremodelled, she wears a patterned furisode with a flight deck obi, and carries her banner-rod wrapped on her back. This represents how she never embarked her aircraft and was camouflaged in Kure, not to be used in any meaningful way. When damaged, she has a distinctive pose lying down upon her side, revealing her Unryuu-class gear underneath the furisode.
Remodelled, she wears the Unryuu-class uniform without Unryuu's cloud patterning. She wields her banner-rod, adorned with a kagura suzu, like her elder sister. Her damaged pose is changed to her wielding her island rigging gun. Previously, it was the exact same pose as her unremodeled form, being changed in the 31 July 2015 update.
By her in-game lines, Amagi has a high-strung, yet still "mature woman" personality, with a lack of confidence in her abilities and constant worry about air attacks. Her depiction in doujin works tend to run more towards the Yamato Nadeshiko end of the spectrum, focusing upon the personality implied by her unusually ornate and formal clothing in her unremodeled state.
Amagi's seasonal CG usually features her wearing some form of kimono.
For New Years, she wears a fancier orange furisode with a floral print.
For Autumn 2016, she wears a white, red and black yukata with a checkered and Japanese maple leaf pattern. Her hair is in a folded ponytail, and she carries a furoshiki wrapped package.
Amagi's damage poses on her side are historical references to how the IJN Amagi sank. During the American raid on Kure Harbor, a Curtiss SB2C Helldiver dropped a 2,000 pound bomb between Amagi's aircraft elevators. The explosion was so massive, 200 feet of the flight deck was blown off, a portion of the hangar was propelled through the sides of the carrier, and fragments were propelled through the hull of the ship. She then gradually capsized, just like how her damage sprite portrays.
Amagi is also the name for Akagi's unfinished sister ship, which was damaged beyond repair in the Great Kantou Earthquake of 1923 and replaced for aircraft carrier conversion by Kaga. Despite being different characters than her own lost older sister, Akagi is often portrayed as caring for Amagi as a little sister.
The battlecruiser Amagi is covered with the tag Amagi (Battlecruiser) (Kantai Collection). Use that tag for hypothetical designs.
