A type of weapon magazine which stores ammunition in a spiral layout (bullets aligned with the barrel), typically resulting in much greater capacity as compared to a single- or double-column magazine. Usually associated with rapid-fire weapons such as machine guns and famously the Thompson submachine gun.
See also dual drum magazine, a paired variation often associated with the famous MG42 machine gun from World War II.
