Edit
Vega (ベガ), known as M. Bison outside Japan, is one of the main villains and primary bosses of the Street Fighter games.
His first chronological appearance is in Street Fighter Zero 2, as the head of an elusive criminal and military organization known as Shadaloo. Along with his aspirations for world conquest, Vega has been working on perfecting a lethal and deadly energy that will exponentially increase his fighting ability, an inherently evil energy he refers to as "Psycho Power". During the events of Street Fighter Zero, Shadaloo comes to the attention of Interpol, which sends Chun-Li (an operative with a personal vendetta against the crime lord, who apparently killed her father) to thwart Vega's plans. Chun-Li and Vega eventually confront each other and battle. Vega defeats Chun-Li and then escapes on his helicopter while mocking her and promising to kill her in the same manner he killed her father if she confronts him again.
Name change
When Street Fighter II was localized in America, Capcom was afraid of a lawsuit from Mike Tyson over a character with his likeness and a similar sounding name (Mike Bison). They decided to rotate the names of three of the four boss characters in the following manner:
- The boxer is known as M. Bison in Japan and Balrog in the US.
- The Spanish assassin/bullfighter is known as Balrog in Japan and Vega in the US.
- The evil dictator and head of Shadaloo is known as Vega in Japan and M. Bison in the US.
For the sake of clarity, online discussions of Street Fighter use respectively the nicknames "Boxer", "Claw" and "Dictator" for the aforementioned characters.
Since we have preference for the source media, use "vega" to tag this character on Danbooru.
