海風, lit. "Sea Breeze".
Seventh of the ten Shiratsuyu-class destroyers in Kantai Collection. The 4th Fleet Incident that occurred while she was under construction, led to a re-design of the remaining yet-to-be-finished Shiratsuyu destroyers from Umikaze onwards. Thus they were also known as the Kai-Shiratsuyu-class (改白露型), or Umikaze-class (海風型) as she was the first ship of the Kai-Shiratsuyu.
She has a serious and eager personality, and tends to worry over her sister-ship, Kawakaze.
Umikaze has blue eyes and very long silver or white hair tied in a single braid with a hair tie, and parted bangs. She also has a mole under her left eye. Her clothing has a distinct black and white contrast with blue trimming, with a white-and-black collared sleeveless shirt, blue neckerchief, black elbow gloves, a skirt pleated skirt, black pantyhose, and loafers. She shares nearly all of these clothing characteristics with Kawakaze.
Her combat gear is unusually painted all black, with a hand-carried, twin-turret cannon in her left hand, twin torpedo turrets on her thighs, and a smokestack and antenna mast carried like a backpack.
She obtained her second remodel on the June 25th 2019 update. Her outfit is now a blue version of Kawakaze's own outfit while she keeps the single thighband, now on the right. Her hair and eyes don't change colors and her hair flaps are small, short yet conspicuous, standing erect and out of the way of her hair feathering.
For a collaboration with Lawson in September 2016, she was also designated to wear the employee's uniform for a picture with Kawakaze.
Historically, she was one of the first ships built under the Circle Two Program, launched in early 1936. She was originally part of Destroyer Division 24 along with her sister ships Yamakaze, Kawakaze, and Suzukaze. Although she mainly performed troop transport or escort missions, she was involved in several dangerous night missions to bombard Henderson Field in Guadalcanal, fighting in the infamous Ironbottom Sound, including in the First Battle of Guadalcanal. Afterwards, she was heavily damaged by an airstrike, and forced to be towed to Sasebo by Asashio. She had one of her cannon turrets removed, and replaced with an additional Type 96 Anti-Air gun. Ultimately, she was sunk at Truk Atoll by the USS Guardfish, a Gato-class submarine in March 31, 1944, with 215 of her crewmen surviving.
