Variations

- One of Touya/Touko's childhood friends. Cheren sets out on a Pokémon journey at the same time as the player, along with a third friend, with the aim to become the Unova champion. He is described as being intelligent and trustworthy.
- Cheren's character arc revolves his pursuit of the strength he feels necessary to become Unova's champion. He becomes increasingly frustrated by his losses to the player, and eventually starts evaluating his definition of the word "strength".

- Cheren reappears in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 as the Gym Leader of Kyouhei or Mei's hometown of Aspertia City. He acts as Lenora's replacement, specializing in Normal-type Pokémon and giving victors the Basic Badge. Like in the previous game, the player sees Cheren alot, and on more than one occasion, will work together with him or her to fight Team Plasma. He uses the team he raised two years ago when not acting as a Gym Leader.
