daffodil
Daffodils are a family of flowers with a central trumpet surrounded by 6 floral leaves. The trumpet and petal-like leaves can some in a variety of colors, most often white, yellow, and orange, and can differ in color.
In the east, they are considered a symbol of wealth and good fortune, and since they bloom in early spring are often associated with the Chinese New Year. The bulbs are mildly poisonous and must be handled with care but were once a part of traditional Japanese medicine.
Also known as Narcissus, after the genus name, or as jonquils after a particular species of the family.
