harrier jump jet
The Harrier Jump Jet is a family of military VTOL fighter aircraft originally designed in the UK and later co-developed by British and American companies. The concept seeks to maintain air power despite poor or absent airfield conditions.
Although the various models do vary in outward appearance, some of the persistently common details are the notable anhedral (downward) angles of the wings and tailplanes, the large engine air intakes and cockpit canopy, the multiple weapon hardpoints and (while landing) the combined inboard/outboard landing gear. See Wikipedia article for more details.
