howto:artist
The artist library is a specialized database on Danbooru that serves both as a resource for artist homepages, and also as a way to determine the artist of an upload by parsing the URL it came from.
Making an artist entry is a bit of a tricky endeavor, and so this howto should explain how to go about it.
How to find an artist's name
On the artist's home page or blog, information usually come in "about", "profile", "info", "link", "プロファイル", "インフォ", "アバウト", or "管理人" page. Artist's name is usually after: "PN", "HN", "管理人", "名前", etc. Circle or site name is after: "サイト名", "HP".
Artist could give their name in kanji (with kana reading of that name) or plain kana characters. You can romanize the kana reading of their name yourself using the tables in Wikipedia: hiragana, katakana. See also in howto:romanize
If the name is in kanji without reading reference, try using Tangorin or Nihongo.
If Tangorin search return multiple readings of a single name, compare them with the artist's site link, site name, email, twitter account, pixiv nickname and then choose.
If you're still not sure, ask in topic #8199.
If you're uploading from Pixiv website, see howto:pixiv for more details.
How to make a good artist tag
Do not use unicode characters in the artist name, even if they look like normal letters: Ryu is not the same as Ryu.
Full name is preferable and is usually unique.
Avoid adding the qualifier "_(artist)" after the artist name, use their site name/circle name as the qualifier instead, e.g. chihiro_(kemonomichi) whereas KEMONOMICHI is the circle of artist Chihiro. This is to make the artist tag truly unique.
In order to tell the site that your new tag is an artist and that it should be colored red, you should prefix it with artist:. For example, if you were creating the artist tag mark, you would type artist:mark. You can also use art: as a shortcut.
If you have already created the tag as a general (blue) tag and want to change it to an artist (red) tag, you can use the same artist: prefix to do so by editing the tags on any post that has it. You can also search for the tag and use the "edit" link next to it to change its type. Note that you are not allowed to change the type of a tag with more than 50 posts unless you are at or above the Builder level.
How to make an artist entry
Preferably do this after the art by this artist had been posted and tagged with the artist's name. Click on the "?" right before the artist's tag (the red one) and begin to edit/adding information in the fields below:
Other Names
These are generally what you should add in this field:
- Names in kanji
- Names in kana
- Site name
- Circle name
- Pixiv nickname (find under pixiv avatar)
- Pixiv username (find in the pixiv stacc feed URL)
- Twitter name
Group
Generally the circle name. Add only ONE, because if multiple names are added, the system will register the whole string as one name despite comma separation.
Use the original stylization of that circle/site name (e.g. in Japanese, and/or asterisk, and/or capitalization, etc.)
URLs
All links that are useful in finding arts and information about the artist.
- Most important: Direct image URLs from any sites the artist uses to host their work. (For example: http://img13.pixiv.net/img/shirononochiko/2191076.jpg or http://www5.cscblog.jp/blog/moeblog.jp/decoppachi/img/kanji-file-name-76.jpg).
- Home Page
- Circle Home Page
- Blog
- Pixiv account
- Twitter account
- NicoVideo account, with both of the NicoSeiga user/illust/### and user/illust/###?target=illust_all links included
- Others (DeviantArt account, Stickam account, Drawr account, DoujinDB entry,...)
Do not remove dead URLs. See topic #8048 for the many reasons why you should leave them alone.
Instead, add a - in front of the URL to mark it as dead.
You can also use the - button next to URLs under the artist when editing posts to the same effect.
