what will be next? Different tags depending on what colored clothes a character wears?

Funny, I've actually suggested that before. But it wasn't entirely a serious endeavor since I'm sure I would be the only person that would actually colors of clothes.

But even so, I agree with you, it makes no sense to tag the colors of individual clothing articles. That's just neurotic.

Well, i prefer white school swimsuit over plain ones, black panties over white/striped ones, and white thighhighs over black ones, so i wouldnt mind adding that and some other, but not for the color of a t-shirt/scarf/skirt/whatever.

I agree with this. "Color-clothes" tags are not necesary, and if you like a specific color in certain clothes... then just look for it in the "clothes" tag you like.

What's the problem with it? Just like the white school swimsuit has a unique appeal that differs it from the black one so may the white pantyhose have a different appear from the usual black/brown ones. black_dress and white_dress are other precedents. Besides, more objective tags that may be useful to some are not a problem and are certainly preferable being tags instead of pools.

well, I can go with white and blue school swimsuit tags, because there's almost only those two colors, but with thighhighs? I mean, we have white, black, grey, pink, yellow, green, striped, frilled ends etc etc. Sure it's good if you want to find just the color that appeals to you, but what happens when these tags get more and more popular? Well, suddenly people will forget to tag them as "thighhighs" too, and then you will not find all available thighhigh pictures when you search on that tag.

Windows Photo Gallery in Vista have a tagging system, and in there you can assign a "parent tag" for stuff like this. So imo, before danbooru should get a parent tag function before its tags get divided into sub-tags.

But then again, we're talking about like 9 pictures that have the "white thighhighs" tag, so it's not that big of a discussion :P

Sub-tags and other sorts of tag hierarchy have been discussed and soundly rejected in the past. In some sort of ways, I like the idea, but once you get into that sort of complexity the usability of the site will probably plummet. Not to mention it would become increasingly difficult to encode things in a way the database could maintain easily without putting additional strain on the servers.

I don't think it's that hard to make the database handle sub/parent tags. All you need is to create a new column in the tag-table that is used as a foreign key and let the tag object have a reference to itself. That's the best way without straining the servers (easier said than done, lol).

Anyway! It wasn't my intention to promote sub/parent tags when I created this thread, merely to ask if the 6 pictures with the "white_thighhighs" tag should have this tag removed or not.
