Come to think of it, the Argonauts were sort of the ancient Greek version of the Avengers, weren't they (or rather, the other way around).
It was always meant to be that way. The Argonauts and Calydonian hunt are basically the ancient Greek crisis events for fans of individual heroes to get all giddy when they all team-up. Complete with several tellings by different writers who just choose their own grab-bag selection of heroes to throw in with their OCs.
Only it's a bad kind of crossover because the heroes' involvement hardly extend beyond name-dropping. You won't see them using their individual abilities to actually contribute to the cause.

They contribute plenty!
...the Argo, as a ship from before the age of sail, needed rowers.
