People say that about these characters but if they also behave like their visual age (which imu sanjo's Naganami certainly does if we're being generous) then they should have the same restrictions. A 500 year old vampire doesn't become mature if she's been mentally 5 years old for 495 years so you wouldn't let her drink either.

Except the law does not give a single fuck if the person is an irresponsible moron or not, only that they're a given age chronologically. See... well a significant portion of the population in there early 20s really.

While the body affects the mind, living for 500 years tends to give you a rather mature or even cynical view of things around. I've been alive for some almost 30 years, but got told that I looked like I was 40~50, just because I didn't really get to play with kids my age much. Now, let's see if a forever-a-kid can stay a child mentally if they got kicked out or even hunted for being different. Remember, 500 years ago things are harder than now. Ain't no way a 5 years old don't just start maturing mentally fast.
Well, if that vampire was supposed to be 1~2 years old though.... It's a different story.
This tendency you're talking about, is there anywhere I can read about any real life cases?
Sorry, no actual study were done on 500. They are a bit rare for both my research and yours.
For 40 looking like 12 though.... I have met such cases. But yeah, they are the object to another kind of discrimination.
