Hakurei Miko has no need for spell cards. Besides, Reimu was the one who made the spell card battle rules, why should her predecessor (mom) follow them? She was doing perfectly fine without them.

The same could probably be said for Mima. To be honest, I'm surprised Yuka bothered to follow up the spell card system but she always did have a "why the hell not" kind of attitude.
Aaand she punched Reimu so hard she flew at mach 10 speed towards Mysty's eel stand, but actually ran past her and catched her before she actually collided with it.
Also ripped Yukari's gap open with her bare hands.
A little pity that we didn't get to see Kanako and Suwako's reaction to such "matronage". But guess now everyone will think that Reimu has an awesome mother similar to Marisa's Mima and Alice's Shinki.

Kanako here is a soft mom who's similar to fuantei's Shinki. Hope sk-ii doesn't treat her like fuantei does to Shinki.
If you think about it, this is the second time that Reimu and Yukari got their butts handed to them without effort in warugaki's doujinshis. I see a pattern here.
1) She's awesome 2) She has no problems beating up Reimu just to set her straight 3) We're in the "People that want to get Head-locked by the previous shrine maiden" club.

Or we just like to watch the hard core fans work themselves up over it.

Aren't actual mary sue characters like this suppose to be reviled and hated for their pretentious existence? Did that chuunibyou "middle schooler syndrome" become fashionable while I wasn't looking? Its a resprited MUGEN character and has as much integrity as other such overpowered characters like "God shin orochi mecha Gouki alpha" that this game is known for. This character is just flat out bad with no redeeming features of any kind.
Well, it is largely because the premise of this character isn't exactly farfetched
-It is logical for the current Hakurei to have a predecessor -If the predecessor is still alive along with the current generation, all logic would dictate that the one who is more experienced have to be stronger

That and I'm fairly sure it has been explicitly said that Reimu was the one who designed the spellcard system. If that's so, the previous miko would have had to deal with the whole of Gensoukyou with nothing but her fists and her spiritual energy. It only stands to reason that she would be leagues and leagues beyond Reimu at her best.

Aaaa....nd, as long as I am concerned. The current Hakurei Reimu could force her rules to every single inhabitants of Gensokyo, starting from low-class fairies, Oni(s), until the so-called Goddess of War.
That wasn't something that could be done by weaker "Landlord".

They agreed because the death of the miko would collapse Gensokyo. They need her alive so they can continue their schemes. Naturally they'd jump all over a non-lethal means of conflict resolvement. Otherwise they would get their shit WRECKED.

There is also the matter of Fantasy Heaven. Akyuu flat out states Reimu can sustain the spell indefinitely and that no known attack can break it. Plus there's Marisa, who is effectively a walking magical nuke and throws her power around quite freely in battle. The rules protect youkai as much as they protect humans.

Marisa is actually one of the most protected by those rules. Without them, she would have died countless times.
it's implied that yukari or another strong youkai (let's start using "monster" with a capital m) made the spell card rules, and convinced reimu to publish them and support them. if that's true (and it probably is), then they were likely made because yukari believed such a balance of power was good for the "two" species, and thus for gensokyo as a whole; naming duels also make a pretty good national sport! reimu probably isn't a fan of the youkai getting any benefit whatsoever, but she also probably figures "peace is peace".
at any rate, the so-called vampire incident (basically the equivalent of castlevania ad1999, i.e. really big deal and we're probably never getting a game about it) was the catalyst. if touhouwiki's pmiss translation is right, it also implies that the vampire from that incident was remilia herself ("...the raucous Scarlet Mist incident caused by that vampire...") which would be slightly more exciting for some reason?
YUKARRRRRIIIIIII!!!Why did you leave her alone and let her become like thiiiiiis!?It was your duty to look after Reimu (the current generation)!!Gyaaah!Noooo, please, I'm sorry, forgive meeeee!!Please, someone stop her...
