An assault rifle designed by Heckler & Koch.
Designed to supplant the failed H&K G11 project, the G36 family of firearms fires NATO-standard 5.56mm ammunition. Variants include the compact H&K G36C and H&K G36K, the standard G36A2 model for the German Army, the G36V export version, and the MG36 light machine gun.
The weapon is characterized by a large carrying handle and skeletonized folding buttstock; it lacks a front sight post as well, being normally equipped with an integral multi-optic sighting system. It can be fitted with a bipod or an underbarrel grenade launcher.
