vajra (object)
Sanskrit: वज्र (vájra)
Chinese: 金剛杵/金刚杵 (jīngāng chǔ)
Japanese: 金剛杵 (kongōsho)
Originally from Hindu mythology, a vajra is the weapon of the thunder god Indra (analagous to Thor's hammer Mjolnir in Norse mythology). It symbolizes "both the properties of a diamond (indestructibility) and a thunderbolt (irresistible force); the Sanskrit word has both these meanings". From Hinduism the concept spread, manifesting as a weapon-shaped ritual item used in Tantric and Tibetan branches of Buddhism.
The terms appearing below are subtypes of vajra.
- 独鈷杵 (Japanese: tokkosho / dokkosho): this term appeared in Toramaru Shou's spell card (Her weapon is not a vajra, though.)
- 三鈷杵 (sankosho)
- 五鈷杵 (gokosho): used by Sowaka-chan.
