Tag alias/implication discussion

About the gothic_lolita tag, not all lolita pictured there are from the Gothic ramification; in fact, there are sweet, ero, and guro lolitas out there. Perhaps, renaming it to lolita_fashion, and redirecting all future pictures that would be put in gothic_lolita to there?

There is already a lolita tag and a gothic tag besides the gothic_lolita tag. Additionally there are the underused sweet_lolita and a wa_lolita tags as well.

If the problem is that there are improperly tagged images within gothic_lolita tag, then the best (and hardest) solution is to manually wade through all the images and correctly tag those that shouldn't be tagged gothic_lolita.

Reread that, it doesn't address the hyphen at all. In fact, it explicitly leaves the hyphen in the "do it this way" example.

I am generally anti-hyphen (I know, ironic) in tags but the rule you cite does not support your position.

biohazard -> resident_evil

Why?

I was expecting the former to refer to pics with the international biohazard symbol. This alias is completely arbitrary and useless. And what's with that "Please. Accept this." as comment for the alias?

(Ar Tonelico 2 spoilers)

salarta's started tagging pictures of Mir/Jakuri as mule (ar tonelico). Does this mean the mir->jakuri alias should be deleted and we should just apply consistent standards in tagging - i.e. if it contains AT2 characters or costumes tag it Jakuri, if it doesn't tag it Mir/Mule? I submitted the original alias because people seemed to be arbitrarily tagging images with one or both names, it was a mess, and I guess I didn't feel like sorting it out at the time.

To those unfamiliar with the games but didn't care about being spoiled: Mir is the endboss of Ar Tonelico 1, who doesn't physically appear until the final battle and thus her appearance is a bit of an enigma. In Ar Tonelico 2 there is a major character named Jakuri who dresses differently (actually, Mir was usually buck-naked.) Partway through the game it's revealed that she is Mir.

I personally think this spoiler is difficult enough to avoid that we shouldn't bother - anyone browsing through all the Ar Tonelico images on danbooru, or AT2 information anywhere, will probably run into it regardless of our tagging strategy.

P.S. It'd be nice if wiki links didn't break spoiler tags.

Someone submitted about 200 Pokemon tags to alias them to their Japanese equivalent. I'm not sure if I want to go down that rabbit hole.

There's also a Castlevania -> Akumajo Dracula alias. I'm starting to regret I made thie decision.

Jeeze, for the sheer amount of effort that must have taken, you figure they'd have asked first...

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. The aliases really seem pointless, anyway. There's no need to stick with Japanese original names on Pokemon in my opinion, especially for the myriad creatures. Lots of them are single names too, and on the Japanese side they can be potentially ambiguous (Articuno being "Freezer" for instance). Too much trouble and not worth it.

For the fact that most Pokemon have less than a half dozen posts, is it really even worth messing with an alias in either direction? There are even plenty of the submitted aliases that would map zero posts to zero posts. Totally worthless.

I know that many of them don't have much on them, but I do know that a few images have the Japanese name on them (one with Crocnaw and Slugma, for instance). I only got through the first 151 and Gardevoir, maybe the G/S/C starters, too. Far as Freezer goes, the only one it's on at the moment is a Frieza/Freeze image (as I noted), though that and "Coil" I can understand ambiguousness wanting to be retained. Are there any images with standalone freezers among the mass yet? IMO, Articuno is awesome enough to have no distinction on it, but being real, it could be a problem.

For Castlevania (thank goodness, or whoever started all this, that there's not capitalization in tags), a few of the games' Japanese names used "Castlevania" for the title as a means of sidestepping the Dracula aspect (HoD, which featured Dracula as an optional, AoS, which featured Dracula as a possessed other, and LoI, which featured the man who would become Dracula). Just putting that out there in case a mass overhaul of those tags occurs.

*runs for life*

I think an alias one way or another would be a good idea, simply because we wouldn't want to have half of the images with Slowpoke to be tagged as Yadon (it's not currently, but...). I don't really mind which way it goes since both are the same in every conceivable way except what word it says in the taglist.

I honestly don't think there's any way to avoid that one. Don't get me wrong. I hate spoilers. I hate hate HATE Peter Pan... errr I mean spoilers. But really this one's just so wide spread and out of control I'd be suprised if anyone looking into the game for more than 10 minutes manages to avoid it. Which is a shame considering how many red herrings and such Gust used to avoid spoiling this.

I'd support EN->JP mostly to fuck with poster's heads, but also so that they'd catch on to anything related to the Japanese name (such as Gardevoir in [knight's] armor) and simply being cued in to what not-Americans call it (though this also calls for European variant to be aliased... maybe...) and that Nintendo has (supposedly) registered names in non-moonspeak for use (even if some of them look so painfully like Engrish). What's does Bulbapedia's List-of page have against Opera, I ask./?

So long as they're not ambiguous or have the potential to be ambiguous later, I'm not really against the aliases, T5J8F8. They just seem kind of pointless, and as said above, it would have been better to ask here first before flooding the aliases suggestions list.

Also...
gary_oak->ookido_shigeru
Romanizations need to show the long vowel sound to be consistent with the rest of Danbooru (so it would be two o's, not one)
