create alias hoodie -> hooded_sweatshirt
After consulting the wiki more closely, I'm thinking we should make the name of this tag less ambiguous to try and stop people from using it on posts which should be tagged hooded jacket instead. Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I can tell it should be hooded jacket for the ones that open up at the front and this tag for the ones that don't (which would also make open hoodie entirely redundant).

I don't think this is true. I've heard hoodie used to refer to a hooded piece of clothing that has a zipper on the front a lot in my life. Wikipedia says both hoodies and sweatshirts can have zippers, more than a third of google image search results for "hoodie" have a zipper, people in random internet discussions seem to agree that hoodies can have zippers, there's this wikihow article, etc, etc.

And that's precisely why I'm trying to figure out whether or not hoodie is different enough from hooded jacket to justify the separate tags. If there is a difference, we should clarify it by creating this alias; if not, I'll delete this request and make a new one calling for hooded jacket to be aliased to hoodie.
There's no reason why a hoodie can't have a zipper.
I'd lean towards making hoodie the canonical tag and mapping hooded_jacket and hooded_sweater to it. Users could disambiguate by adding zipper or sweater.
The tag alias hoodie -> hooded_sweatshirt has been rejected.
