-1 It should be the other way around. Most verbs on this site use the progressive form, or "-ing" form. For non-active spills where the event has already occurred, spilled should be used instead.

I'll switch it around, but my concern is if an actual spill (that has already occurred) is tagged spill versus spilled, and if there needs to be some cleanup of both.

Yes, spill probably does need to be cleaned up before the alias would go into effect.

I've interpreted the spill tag as the mess left behind after the action is done (not sure if I was aware of spilled), while the action should definitely be spilling. Probably should make the difference between spilling and pouring clear too. I'd think of the former as being accidental and the latter intentional, but the wiki for spilling says it can be intentional too.

Huh... I don't think I've ever used pouring unless it was from one container into another. I've always thought of spilling as an action that happens when a container gets too full or a liquid is spilled (intentionally or unintentionally) onto some surface, whether it be a person's body or the floor.

Spill is a little ambiguous, since it can be a noun or several present forms of the verb, whereas spilled carries with it a definitive completion of the action.

The only few comparisons I can think of off the top of my head are...

falling -> fallen down
breaking -> broken
undressing -> undressed aliased to -> clothes_removed
dying -> dead aliased to -> death

Anyway, I don't see the spill/spilling combination any more confusing than similar noun/verb combinations such as snow/snowing or vomit/vomiting. As long as we consistently use verbs in gerund form rather than dictionary form, it shouldn't be too hard to avoid getting them mixed up. So that's a big -1 to the alias from me, and a -1 to any potential implication as well.

I wasn't aware spilled existed. It definitely looks redundant to spill, except for a few posts that should have been tagged spilling. Good call.
