Wiki can say a lot of things, but just looking at the tag shows a variety of shapes ranging from single-seaters to more of a bench. I'd say it should stay its own thing.

Can you give some examples that wouldn't fit because all I see are posts that do fit the definition of couch.
I've only found post #2067728 that is an armchair, though (and why does armchair even imply chair?)
