[Bulk] Conforming Gemstone Tagging

Posted under Tags

mass update crystal -> crystal_(stone)
mass update diamond -> diamond_(stone)
mass update emerald -> emerald_(stone)
mass update pearl -> pearl_(stone)

Just to disambiguate any possible tagging issues I'd like to propose that we conform all gemstones with a *_(stone). I will gladly go around to remove any confusing statements left in each gems wiki entry to make the whole process a successful swap over should this bulk update request be approved.

EDIT: The bulk update request #1906 (forum #153429) has been approved by @NWF_Renim.

I strongly disagree with crystal -> crystal_(stone). Crystal is not a discrete material like the other three, but rather a descriptor. Not all things described as a crystal are stones, in particular crystal balls and other glass objects.

With regard to the other three, is this disambiguation really necessary? In what contexts could these tags be correctly applied to something other than the material, where the other usage is not already clearly disambiguated (Houseki no Kuni, baseball diamond, etc).

Calling pearls "stones" might be technically inaccurate.

Sometimes, a tag is exactly what it is. In those cases, it does not need disambiguation.

I think it's mostly to keep it similar to the other *_(stone) tags, but I agree crystal should stay as it is at least, not sure about the pearl tag.

The appropriate qualifier name would be "gemstone" instead of "stone", the current tags using the qualifier would fall under the gemstone category. This also resolves the issue of the amber_(stone) and pearl tags, as they're both considered gemstones, even if both are organic in nature and would definitely not be considered a stone/rock.

Whether the qualifier is necessary is another question, as the base names themselves would inherently refer to the gemstones and any other uses of the names would be derivative of that (characters named after the gemstones, objects crafted from the gemstones, etc).

All the existing *_(stone) tags, diamond, emerald, and pearl have all been moved over to a *_(gemstone) qualifier. Crystal was not included in this change.

If the qualifiers are determined to be unnecessary, then we can removed them at a later time.

The term gemstone properly covered all the existing tags with the exception of Antarcticite, which only natural exists under certain conditions and readily melts/deteriorates from the water vapor in the air. The term stone only properly covered one of the tags, which was Lapis lazuli, and it is also considered a gemstone.

That's perfect, and better thought out than my original post itself so thank you.
