Bots accounts

Posted under General

I just come to notice that starting from 6 july 17:12 lots of new accounts are created. At this point it's still being created flooding like 650+ pages of those "empty" accounts.

Should probably warn @albert so that something can be done about them, both to ban all of them and to prevent their creation.

Should we ping the other admins as well?

It's been a long time since I signed up, but are captchas still effective?

In general, no. Professional spammers hire unskilled workers in countries like India to solve thousands of captchas for a couple dollars a day. There isn't a good automated method these days to prevent registering bot accounts that doesn't involve something drastic like requiring a credit card.

I'm assuming I got one as well, but when I get into my messages, it pulls up as empty despite saying that I have one.

It would be in the spam folder

The dmails table was missing some indexes which were making the spam checks slow.

What? You're telling me that there really isn't some hot chick who wants to show me her nude cosplays? (Which is kind of an oxymoron)

Thanks for the updates everyone.

I sign in after 2 weeks and I got an unread mail notif. Nothing in my inbox so I thought of starting a thread but I see this thread so perhaps there was a spambot but the message in my inbox got deleted?

Yup, when you look in your message there is a spam button at the top

@albert will you do anything extra to get rid of all these or just rely on auto-ban system? This time the bots are easily discernable, so I could probably compile a list (or ask for help with it) and then just run them all through a script, but that would generate a ton of feedback.
