Tag Implication: shibari

Posted under General

Implicating: shibaribdsm.

Reason: shibari is by definition erotic bondage. Thus all instances must be BDSM. Posts like post #134740 don't invalidate the point, as it's precisely the BDSM aspect they're parodying.

We used to have a shibari -> bondage -> bdsm chain. It was removed after some discussion about how long implication chains are cumbersome.

I believe that this implication chain is mostly semantic, with the argument "shibari is bondage, therefore we must force the tags to reflect this". But the tags shouldn't reflect conceptual relations, they should reflect what you see in the image. That's not always the same. Just like how character tags don't implicate the series, and how "nude" doesn't implicate "bottomless" or "topless" even though conceptually they should (well, conceptually going by the common definition, not by how we've redefined the term on danbooru).

For instance, post #288477? It's clearly related to shibari, but it seems rather tenuous to also label it bdsm. Would someone who's blacklisted bdsm really not want to see it?

In many cases, the absence of a related tag is more interesting than the presence, so always forcing that tag to be present makes the distinction useless. The question is, do you really want shibari to always be defined as a bondage situation, even though there are pics of shibari that people wouldn't commonly think of as being in an actual bondage context?

Besides, the number of shibari posts that should also have bdsm but lack it is small, it's easy enough to fix manually. I don't think that justifies an implication.

I think piespy's argument makes sense, but as my interest in bondage is zero (to put it generously) so I'm really not up on all the distinctions between terms. There are about 150 shibari posts without bdsm, and I can't really tell why many of them wouldn't, even after reading the wikis.
