I wouldn't worry about it yet.

Either crocodilian will be used or the wiki's for the existing tags will be clarified.

It will take a few days for a decision to be made either way.

This is one of those situations where the the "don't be needlessly specific" argument gets some sympathy from me. But since an umbrella tag is an option, even if a clumsy one, I'm going with that. It's the one solution that causes no potential information loss while also not requiring users to know a somewhat obscure distinction that won't even be apparent in many images, which leaving them as two independent tags would.

So they'll have to implicate crocodilian. And yes I'm going to be very stingy about approving similar obscure taxonomic umbrella tags, so don't assume this is open precedent.
