This is a case of the misconception that energy and mass convert into each other. Actually pure energy has a mass by itself, and the famous equation m=E/c^2 states the mass of that energy. Mass is conserved and does not disappear

What about matter-antimatter annihilation? Say, an electron-positron annihilation, where the two particles are certainly destroyed, resulting in the creation of a pair of massless photons.
Conservation of mass only holds in isolated, closed systems. A whole universe can by no means be considered a system that can be observed in its entirety, meaning that a local violation of said law is possible without a global violation occurring. And anyway, General Relativity doesn't even define "mass" strictly. I'm sorta fuzzy on the exact terms used, but there's an invariant mass, and I think there's an inertial mass too. Is there a physicist on call here...?

Anyway, that's enough to blast Earth to kingdom come.
Oh, this is relatively tame, if you don't try to understand the actual mathematics involved, and consider only the theory. Quantum mechanics can give you even bigger mind-bombs: what you don't observe directly does not exit, as such; systems only change states when you're not looking; somewhere, in some universe, Cirno actually exists (and maybe she's smart); and even if you die, you don't die.
In other words, every single flesh/food/whatever-eating ghost is a walking, more or less, 55000 times Hiroshima bomb.
If this is true, then you'll think that every year during the Chinese 'Hungry Ghost Festival' / 盂蘭盆 our world is worse than just doomed, ain't it?
If we break down further, we can safely assume that one hungry ghost produce antimatter with mass of its victim. And a tiny lightweight little droplet of antimatter can destroy a small house made of stone and brick.

Should we panic now?
No. For we are riding on something that potentially equals 7,925x10^21 Little Boys. That's a lot of power. And said collection of nukes orbits a self-regulating fusion warhead many thousand times more massive than itself, that regularly throws out plasma blasts capable of potentially stripping the atmosphere from planets and incinerating their surfaces. All the while generating a shield to protect itself from things that could be regarded as the big brothers of the Death Star hopped up on HGH and steroids, cubed, then raised to the tenth power (Gamma Ray Bursts). The universe is a frickin' scary place, when you think about it...
As for antimatter, its production would be unfeasible in any significant quantity. If you're going down the magic route, you might as well say that magic allows the local violation of the Conservation of Mass, and it would hold just as much validity.

Lol, ghost is the real and potential source of true energy for futuristic technology of nuclear warhead. Thanks to the theory of Magic, or sufficiently-high-advanced-technology-indistinguishable-from-magic.

Quoting Frank Woods: "This is Genso' baby!"
And to reply to your quote: "YOU CAN'T KILL ME!"
Oh, if Ghosts have Zero Mass then when they undergo into light speed they will have infinite mass, right?
What if it was 1 though? an endothermic reaction that absorbs energy from the atmosphere, creating a cold spot effect? Hell, what if they don't actually eat humans for energy and the reason that they do so is to cool their environment before they overheat? Maybe that's why they're nocturnal.
Mass can be theoretically converted into energy (but even in most ideal ways we can think of now, it is never 100% conversion, afaik closest one was about 40%, which is still a lot in terms of energy released), and their total amount would remain the same as long system is closed, but funny thing here, that it's gravitational effects would remain the same regardless mass:energy ratio. This is part which leads to relatively graspable ways of creating kugelblitz black holes, once dyson swarm is established, by focusing few powerful star-powered lasers to intersect in single point of space, thus adding up enough energy in one location to surpass schwarzschild's threshold.
Is your head alright?Mysty has a body mass of 30 kilograms.
E = 30[kg] x {3x10^8[m/s]}^2 = 2.7 x 10^18[J]
The atomic bomb at Hiroshima had an energy level of 5 x 10^13[J], therefore the energy contained within Yuyuko is at least 55000 times the nuclear explosion.
If that energy is released...*twitch**chomp**chomp**twitch*Wow...Dai-chan! Gensokyou is doomed!What strange things are you saying all of a sudden?In the first scenario, the conversion into gas would cost energy instead of producing any.
Therefore it must be the conversion into energy.
In that case, the energy absorbed is given by
E = mc^2
That is, mass multiplied by the square of the speed of light.If a ghost has zero mass, where does the mass it eats go...1. Breakdown into gas and expel all of it
2. Convert the mass into energy
