Little girls from Elona by default will smile at you after they kill something. (Even if they are neutral or hostile to you.)
They are actually low-leveled warrior classes, and with good equipment, they can actually be exceptionally dangerous combatants in a melee, better than most other low-level creatures. Hence, they are one of the best "pets" to have at a low level, and one can easily single-handedly kill a whole dungeon of low-level monsters, so, if anything, this little girl doesn't have nearly enough blood or body parts strewn about her.
One of the more notable features of Elona as a roguelike is that you can have "pets" that include humanoids (other games would call them "allies" or "party members"), and can start the game with a "pet little girl".
The little girl is inherently a source of comedy and/or consternation, as for ANY type of pet you can buy and sell them, breed them, collect their eggs, milk them, marry them and have children with them - completely regardless of gender, age, species, or even whether or not they are organic, corporeal, or living beings. (You can collect ghost eggs, milk a zombie, and have children with a golem.)
Adding to what the previous comment said, the Little Girls are part of a race called Roran in Elona.
Japanese lacks the "L" sound, so Roran could be more naturally translated as Lolan. A more understandable translation would be loli or lolita. Note that all Roran NPCs in the game currently are female. The most notable example of a Roran is the little girl.
Playing Elona+ I probably over-equipped my littler girl because that girl obliterates everything in her path. Had to go against a fallen angel in pet arena once, pushed the angel to a corner and beat her up so bad the angel went to hell.

Can't find a working dl link for the latest version.../sob

There are people who beat the original game's final dungeon using nothing but the Little Girl from the start of the game. (As in, the little girl soloed the final dungeon while the player did nothing but guide her and avoid the monsters.)
That said, the true greatest monster of the game is the platinum bell. It's a major pain to level and equip with skills, but once you do, it's hilariously capable of ripping nearly everything to shreds before they even get a move (bonus for letting the bell carry an assault rifle). Elona+ even introduced a few things that use the "metal" race as a base and even add classes, though, including a Hoi-Hoi-san expy.
You forgot to add that said little girl can start with a two handed axe or sword. OR how, with the right weapon they can basically solo the first dunegon for you right off the bat. So much blood...

So have I heard. I wanted to adopt a Bell pet but my level was too high for a Platina bell. I don't want to coddle it for a time. So I opted in for its big brother, the Bell of Emergency. At first, it seemed like a bad idea, given that they always start their attack by taunting ALL nearby enemies and the fact that they are melee oriented mob. My bell died a couple of times before I decided to slap some hands, feet, and other body parts to it. After that, I gave it some elemental resist, few rubynus equips, and two living wakizashis that are being oriented to grant all elemental resistance as they level up; and my god. I have created a lightning bruiser that's twice faster than a Platina bell, essentially teleporting around me like a child on cocaine and slaughter everything in its wake, but not before it insult those things first to get their attention. All that's left now is for me to keep levelling its living weapons and maybe give it two more arms to swing stuff with before I can unleash it on Pet arena for free stuff.
Can't wait until I can get my hands on Bell of termination.
