Was wondering that myself. What kind of commie doesn't like ice cream?
Well ice cream had a vital role in the Pacific War (talking about hot weather in the Tropics). The USN had ice cream barge, which sole purpose is to distribute ice cream in the field, while the IJN had Mamiya and Irako and the famous Mamiya Ice Cream.
Careful now Iowa don't want to binge yourself too much otherwise all that help from Nagamon and Mamiya to lose weight would be for naught.
I wonder if Iowa would mind sharing that bucket...

Well, the US did heavily invest in ice cream during the war. The US Navy even had ice cream dispensers on their capital ships, Iowa included.

Yup. Amazing what ice cream does for morale with 18 hour work days in very hot conditions.

True. In fact, US carriers had a policy of giving ice cream to the crews of destroyers that rescued their pilots, which would be perfect fodder for one of the most diabeetus-inducing scenes in all of Kancolle history.

I Could See it as A bunch of Destroyers Holding a Pilot fairy hostage and Demanding a Ransom to be paid of 10 gallons of ice Cream if they ever want to see the Avenger again.
Couldn't get alcohol on ships, so to a sailor in the middle of the Pacific, ice cream did mean something.
yeah because apparently ice cream can make you drunk, and i am not kidding, i have read about it in some article years ago but i don't know if that is true or not..

Only if you add alcohol ;)
US Navy ended prohibition in 2014. Good read on that history:

So japanese ships get that green liquid and US ships get ice cream? How's that fair?
Japanese get high quality repair drugs. Americans get Ice Cream.
Sort of like how in 80s and 90s cartoons the American would be drinking foaming mugs of orange juice, or spring water, while in other countries it was beer and sake.
