So this is actually what happens, another fusion game like the last set of legendaries?
I mean, it looks cool and everything but I was kinda expecting something different. Like Necrozma have something like an alternative evolution depending on what version you have.
Although I can see where they're going with this, it's something along the lines of Solar/Lunar Eclipse forms. It's clever... just not as clever as I was hoping.
To be totally honest I've given up on pokemon ever doing anything really new or innovative in the main games, like what we've seen from the mario/zelda series over their lifespans. It's also getting worrying how they're starting to spam sequels like this so quickly. That's how the mega man franchise burned itself out.
Big difference between the Mario/Zelda zeries and Pokemon is the constant in-person live streamed tournaments Pokemon does the year round. They just had a regional championship in Madison-US and Birmingham-UK, with the Internationals coming up soon.

One thing that annoys me to no end is that while recently Nintendo has been pushing the competitive format, they've done little to nothing to actually balance Pokemon. Certain types are still stupid strong, certain Megas are still incredibly broken, etc.
They've made it easier to breed Pokemon, but could they at least give some thought into the metagame if they want to do competitions?
The only broken Mega Evolutions aside from Rayquaza are the following:
- Mega Gengar (Trapper with huge offensive presence and an amazing offensive typing and support capacities) - Mega Lucario (Extremely high power between 145/140 offenses, Adaptability STABs and 112 Speed) - Mega Blaziken (Speed Boost lethality, though overshadowed in the current climate) - Mega Kangaskhan (Though less than last Gen) - Mega Salamence (Perfect setup attacker with exactly the right combination of power, bulk and speed)
All other Mega Evolutions are relatively easy to keep in check, even Mega Mawile; for all its power, its awful HP really holds its bulk back.
As for typings, I'll chime in by stating the Fairy-type should be nerfed hard. As a raw type, it's way too powerful for its own good. I'd remove the arbitrary Bug-type resistance, as that's total nonsense horseshit at its finest. Instead, make Fairy weak to Bug and actually give it more valid counterplay. I don't know if a Fire weakness is in order; Bug should already help things. Also make Bug resistant to Fairy, as it should.
In terms of Mega Evos, I'm also talking about them letting those Megas still into their competitive tourneys, while still being stupid good. Obviously they're not Smogon, but then at least they should try to balance things out.
Also in terms of types, Water is still a stupid good type. I'd personally make them weak to Poison, to also make Poison attacks better. And, I'd love for them to make Ice types and Grass types better as well in terms of resistances and weaknesses.
I'm not sure why people are saying Pokemon aren't doing new things.
Gen 2 > held item, gender split, breeding, day/night time Gen 3 > abilities, weather, double battle, secret bases, alternate forms, contest, double evil team Gen 4 > attack/special split Gen 5 > triple battle, fusion, sequel instead of simple updated version Gen 6 > full 3D graphics, Megas, amie Gen 7 > Z-Moves, Pokemon rides, regional forms, trials
So, at what point did they stopped trying to add a new feature, exactly? Sure fusion was done before, and not every new mechanic are enjoyable or balanced, but so what? It's still gen 7 and everyone was expecting another gen 7 game to come out anyway, right? If I want new mechanics, I'd be expecting it in Gen 8, and everyone sure knows it's gonna be 2-3 more years until that comes out.
If anything, with Megas, Z-Moves, held items, EVs, IVs, weather, alternate forms, and a roster of over 800 mons, the Pokemon series already is far too overwhelming to not only the kids but the casual newcomers to begin with, I'd be more worried that new features will only make things more convoluted.
As for the competitive, I'm not sure they're fully committed to the "push" of the competitive balance. There's plenty of creative new abilities and moves in gen 7 with gimmicks that seems to be aiming for the competitive crowd, see who can pull off a unique combo like Pachirisu back in 2015, but most of them seems too underwhelming and impractical for actual use. Then there's the Ultra Beasts that just are obviously damn too broken that I'd be hard pressed to believe anyone who approved the addition of these mons have any interests for competitive balance.
It's like the weird balance between making things balanced for the high level competitive players and just making dumb overpowered shits to make sure the kids can clear the game by spamming Earthquake on everything.
Can we all take a moment to appreciate the fact that this is currently the only piece of official art on Ultra Sun/Moon, but it's also currently the only art of USM that was unapproved by the moderators?
The mods actually hate the designs of these pokemon enough that the official art was deleted by quality control.
