Johnny-kun is a paper marionette clown toy from Japan. Street vendors sell it as a puppet that you can control with just your voice. In reality, there is an invisible thread, usually controlled by someone posing as just another onlooker.
It usually sells for 500 to 1000 yen as of 2019. This is the same price it sold for two decades ago, according to a webpage dated 1998 [1] and a 2018 YouTube comment talking about "around 20 years ago".
