Some sloppy-ass job on cropping out the foreground 3D candlesticks to place a character behind them. Like it was done at 25% zoom and the subpixels tried to do their darnest but each pixel-jump on screen was still 4 pixels wide each time. Actually no. On closer look, the artist added a source of light and counter light to the candlesticks in front of the character, presumably by hand and again at 25% zoom. But left all other candles as they were rendered. It is a pretty image with a nice combination of 3D and a few paint-brushed details with a roughly drawn 2D characters. Using a limited color palette. But it is a darn shame a lot of half-assery comes to light when viewing too up close.
