lol I believe that exact spot on that island where you see missingno in the original pokemon gameboy games. I know for a fact you could get it in blue version, not sure about the others...

it was also in the Red Version, though... I don't think it was in Yellow
Awesome, I really wish missingno got more love. I'm sure most everyone can look back and remember how great it was the first time they did it right and saw it.
One note, Anyone else notice it takes it a bit longer to pop up than a regular encounter? That's because at that point it overwrites your save with gibberish, as depicted here.
Though it's ultimately nothing to worry about if you save normally afterward.
Oh man, i remember this! It scared me when my brother trick me by saying "OH GAWD! YOUR GOING TO BOMB YOUR GAME" I freak and started to attack and run xD
Talking to the old man who tells you how to catch Pokemon in the original Red and Blue would temporarily overwrite the data for what you named yourself, and afterwards left permanent corruption to said name data which caused Missingno to appear. It would actually look different depending on the third, fifth and seventh letters in your name.
It comes from seemingly nowhere out of the ocean to inflict it's unintelligible mass of garbled horror upon your character's mind, breaking it in the process of trying to understand what he's seeing. This is shown, as the glitch has side effects after seeing it, like the mangled up hall of fame and somehow believing he has infinite copies of some item in his bag. Furthermore, when you meet him in the later versions, Gold and Silver, the poor guy's been rendered so insane that he can no longer speak, and has become a recluse in a cave.
