You're knee isn't down to support the bike. It's just out as a bit of a feeler to help judge your lean angle, you can still corner pretty hard and never have your knee touch.

Looks like a Honda CBR1000RR.
The idea is to position as much of your weight as possible down low and towards the inside of the corner to fight centrifugal force from pulling the bike (and rider) towards the outside. Dragging knees in corners just comes as a consequence of that.
