A deva likes one of the most strong oni, a deva that's like a youkai sage as Yuuka(kind of same level). A deva that can lift up a mountain(probably, since Suika do), a deva that's harder than steel.

Now seems to got hurt badly by fighting with Meiling. I am totally LOL. Awesome artist is surely awesome, once i get art program i will draw Yuuka that's get beat up by Daiyousai.
Some people make the connection that Meiling is part dragon. Gensokyo dragons are the supreme beings of the universe. Also watch out, people don't take well to seeing Yuka beat up.
They're the two Touhous most likely to engage in unarmed hand-to-hand combat. Suika would be in there, too, but it's hard to make a foot and a half height difference look dramatic. (Although, damn, if you can...)
Actually, weren't the rules of danmaku created so that problems and fights could be solved in such a way as to not kill someone? I've been meaning to brush up on my Touhou knowledge, and I coulda sworn one of the rules of danmaku was to not kill your opponent...
Anyways, I think the stage level a character appears in is kind've subjective in regards to their actual power. Alice Margatroid values strategy over power, so she doesn't use her full power in a fight, even if it means she loses (or so I've read).

That is the enormous strength of Touhou. That and the fact that fans have taken it to heart and create their own versions of Touhou all the time while also loving and respecting other people's work. It is also the guarantee that we will continue to see amazing fan creations for the next decades.
LOL. Dude, fandom is fandom. It is true that Yuugi will probably beat Meiling without breaking a sweat or dropping her sake. That doesn't mean it's not any fun seeing such badass scenes like this.
Though personally, I would like to see more of badass Meiling and not joke character/everyone punching bag.
Or...you know...we can go with the whole "Not good at danmaku" thing Meiling has, that I'm pretty sure is canon...Danmaku != Strength. Who knows how strong she really is. I mean, she could easily be stronger then Sakuya if they'd have an official match already.

That there IS pretty canon. Which I so very much love But of course...if the artist wants to make Meiling weak, they'll make her weak. If they want to make her strong enough to actually be on par with Yuugi they will. That is the lovely thing about fandom though. You either love it, hate it, or just don't give a damn about it.

You basically started the whole thing by asking the question in such a way as to say "Why is Meiling, a weak character, often paired with Yuugi, a strong character?" and then you rattled on about how strong she is.
The person who commented about Meiling being part dragon was a different person who said "You're thinking too much canon" It's not established what type of being Meiling is, but she's commonly depicted with dragons/associated with dragons, which is a fanon type thing and thusly has enough say in the Touhou fandom, which is basically "by the fans, for the fans." Other people were trying to express their fondness of Meiling, just like you expressed yours for Yuugi by talking her strong points.
I don't know what's so amusing about the comments, though. I don't think anyone's being all that serious, we're just playing around woth each other.

This is one of the reasons why I love this fandom so much. The fanon always helps keeps things fresh and interesting, and you'll always find something you like sooner or later, regardless of canon or fanon. I hate hearing people who bitch about the Touhou fans who bring up something fanon, or go against the canon even the tiniest bit. The fans helped make Touhou this big and enjoyable, and it's because we're allowed to read what we want to into the story and characters.
Regardless of being a hardcore fan or a casual fan, we can all come together in our love of Touhou, have a drink, sing like those Whos or Oompa Loompa-things, and admire Meiling's nice rack-I mean this bad-ass picture.
A fandom having so much influence over a series..... sounds way too much like a double edged sword to me. On one hand you get beautiful works like what we see here and remixed/rearranged music that other series could only dream of. On the other hand we get situations like this thread, the whole fanon vs canon nonsense and touhou becoming serious business. In my personal experience, a fandom should have no more control over a series than it's creator just on the fact that a fanbase isn't a hive mind, there will be discrepancies. However, given that zun has bestowed the fans with the power that Nevran describes, perhaps touhou is the exemption to that rule. Still when I see situations like with what went on here, I can't help but wonder.....
Pretty much this. While there is a canon, Zun himself said he prides himself in that Touhou is "Everyone's creation".
didnt he also say that he doesnt care that people make fan works so long as they dont try to pass it off as theirs or something like that? if so zun is a fucking amazing guy
