I guess each pokemon chosn symbolizes their personality or something-that's quite clear. But Madoka-Victini, the 'Victory' and Jirachi 'Wish Master' is really a good pairing.
Gardevoir's probably something to do with being graceful even when fighting, maybe? Not seeing any connection based on the whole psychic thing it has going on, anyhow. Could be the devotion aspect as Anonymous says.
As for the monkey, Aipom, don't recognise it so really couldn't say. Sapphire's last pokemon game I played so out of touch.
The one above Homura that isn't Umbreon... that's Celebi, the Mew-a-like from the generation past Fire/Red, isn't it? Does that have a time travel connection?

It does indeed. I understand everyone's chices except for Mami's. And Someone explained Sayaka with an explaination i can live with. Although i'm still grasping at straws for Mami.
It might just be for the fact that Mami is pretty much the most feminine/womanly/fanservice material-y or whatever of the Madokas, and Gardevoir is THE most (reprise the above) of all Pokés...
