I don't get the "Unexpectedly Good" pool. I mean, Mercer's not really a good guy, but he still protected Manhattan from a nuclear explosion, killed Greene, thus sentencing all the infected to death, and cared more for his sister than the real Mercer did.

I think it fits if this includes how he is in the sequel (more a true villain) but the comic that covers the gap shows that he was pushed there.
