The IMI Galil is a family of military rifles that first entered service in 1972. Based on the Finnish Rk 62 and similarly utilizing a Kalashnikov-style gas-driven piston system, it has been developed into several variants, ranging from a compact short-barrel carbine to a light machine gun. Most fire either 5.56mm or 7.62mm NATO ammunition.
