about:deletion appeals
forum #12247 (make sure to read the top post) is the Deletion Appeal Thread. The deletion appeal thread is a place to bring up images you think deserve a second chance. Although every image uploaded is viewed by several moderators, it nevertheless occasionally happens that an image slips by us. This thread is meant for people to catch those and give them one last shot.
forum #45532 is the Upload Feedback Thread. Go here to get feedback on your uploads if they're not being accepted and maybe someone will tell you what you're doing wrong.
But before you appeal any images, please read the rules below. Failure to follow these rules will result in disciplinary action.
Deletion appeal rules
- Read about:mod_queue. Then read it again.
- Use the post #xxxxx syntax to link to your images, using the ID number of the image. You can find this in the URL, as well as under "Statistics" on the left side menu on each image page.
- Never appeal a post twice. Multiple mods saw it the first time you did. They also saw it when it was first uploaded. It got its fair shot.
- Never reupload a deleted post. If you want a post to be undeleted, appeal it and accept the moderator's decision. Intentionally reuploading your deleted posts instead of appealing them (or in spite of an appeal being denied) will result in a negative record or a possible ban.
- Never appeal all your deleted posts at once. Only appeal the absolute best. If all or most of your uploads have been deleted, you need to lurk more and get a better idea of what is acceptable.
- Never expect or demand feedback or justification. You may get some, if anyone feels like providing it or has anything specific to say. However there are too many appeals and too many other things for us to do for us to have time to critique every appeal.
- You may appeal images you did not upload. In fact it's encouraged, since it's less likely to be an act of self-interest.
- Do not appeal images that aren't yet deleted In this same vein, it's impolite to Dmail janitors/mods asking them to approve your image.
- Don't be an ass. Seriously. It won't help (and if you're a consistent nuisance, it could end in a negative record or even a ban). No, being polite doesn't make your image any better, but being rude does you no favors either.
Furthermore, here's some general tips that will make your (and our) experience better. Unlike the above, we won't specifically enforce these rules, but they will help you in the Danbooru community.
General advice
- Generally, the more images you appeal at once, the lower the chance of people actually approving any. No real hard and fast rule, but generally it seems that anything between one and five is good. It's just much more consumable, and makes it seem like you really carefully picked out your nomination, rather than just throwing a whole blob of images into our laps.
- Don't feel the need to explain your appeal--simply post the link, we won't think you're rude if you don't explain it, we get what you're going for. If there is a special reason (such as the image is in a series of which every other image got approved), feel free to mention it but keep it as short as you can.
- Having a high score or large number of favorites is not justification for approving an image. Don't bother mentioning this when appealing a post. It's well known that having a lot of favorites doesn't necessarily mean a post is good. Also, we have eyes of our own and can see that an image has a lot of favorites when we judge it for appeal--it says it right on the page.
- Keep chatter to a minimum. If you think of a good suggestion related to something in the Deletion Appeal Thread, just start a new thread and link to the relevant post (or quote it).
- This is something that seems to annoy a lot of people: you "appeal" an image, we "approve" them. If it's good. Do not ask us to "appeal" your images. You've already done that by mentioning them in the thread. It goes back to the explanation and chatter notes--the less wasted words, spam and clutter the better, basically.
