namesake
Name shared by at least two persons.
Use this tag when:
- A character cosplays as a character sharing the same name.
- A crossover occurs between two or more namesake characters.
- A combination of the first two (a costume switch crossover)
- A reference made between a character within the scene and a namesake who is entirely absent in the picture (such as a seiyuu connection).
To qualify two characters as namesakes, one must consider the following:
- Characters with the same personal name or nickname are automatic namesakes.
- A one-name character can be considered a namesake of another character having the first character's name as either a personal name or a surname if both are mostly called the same way. Examples are:
- Ookami's Sakuya can be considered as Izayoi Sakuya's namesake because both can be called "Sakuya". (post #513636)
- Saten Ruiko and Needless' Saten can also be considered namesakes since the former is mostly known by her surname. (post #585617)
- Two or more characters sharing the same surname are considered namesakes if they are unrelated characters from different copyrights.
- Can apply to parodies or crossovers based on similar parts of names, e.g. post #1021391 (Gilbert/Gilgamesh)
- Not counted as namesakes are dual personae of the same character, even if they appear in two different titles.
