nib pen (object)
A type of dip pen, meaning the pen must be dipped into ink to use, consisting of a metal nib and a nib holder, which together form the pen. The metal nib dip pen replaced the quill dip pen as the main writing utensil and remained in common use from the early 19th to the early 20th century. Still commonly used by artists, especially comic book artists and mangaka, and calligraphers. Two main types of nibs exist, flexible fine points, used by artists and for general writing, and rigid broad points, used for calligraphy. Not to be confused with fountain pens, which also use a metal nib but in which the ink is supplied by an internal reservoir.
